Grain and Bolt: 10–Year Product Guarantee
Scope of Guarantee
All doors supplied by Grain and Bolt are guaranteed for ten years from the date of purchase to be of sound material and workmanship, and to be free of defects which would render said doors unserviceable or unfit for recommended use.
- Original Purchaser: This guarantee is made to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable.
- Double Glazing: The guarantee on Double Glazed Units is restricted to 5 years.
Inspection and Acceptance
Doors must be fully inspected for visible defects prior to any alteration or installation.
- The 24–Hour Rule: Any defects discoverable by reasonable inspection must be reported in writing to Grain and Bolt within 24 hours of delivery and prior to fitting.
- Acceptance: Any work undertaken on the door (sanding, cutting, hanging, or applying finish) shall constitute absolute acceptance of the product’s condition.
Claims and Remedies
If a fault develops after installation within the ten–year period, written notice must be sent to Grain and Bolt.
- Site Inspection: No claim will be honoured unless an authorised representative of Grain and Bolt (or a designated third party) performs a site inspection. This is at the sole discretion of the company.
- Company Options: If a door is found to be faulty under these terms, Grain and Bolt will, at its sole option:
- Repair the door.
- Supply a replacement door.
- Refund the original purchase price.
- Exclusion of Labour: This guarantee covers the product only. Grain and Bolt is not liable for costs associated with labour, removal of defective doors, rehanging, transportation, or any other third-party services.
Limitations and Exclusions
The following are strictly excluded from this guarantee:
- Natural Variations: Variations in colour, grain, or texture of the timber.
- Warp/Bow/Twist: These are not considered defects unless they exceed 1/2 inch (12.7mm) in the plane of the door itself. Warp refers to the door, not the relationship between the door and the frame/jamb.
- Moisture Content: No responsibility is accepted for warping if the moisture content of the timber falls below 12% or exceeds 18% – evidence must be provide from a calibrated moisture metre.
- Improper Finishing: Any product treated with a water–based finish is excluded. Use of unsuitable sealers or failure to seal all six edges (including top and bottom) voids the guarantee.
- External Doors: Any exterior door installed without adequate overhead protection (e.g., a canopy or porch) or finished in dark colours in direct sunlight.
- Special Orders: All non-stock or bespoke items manufactured to customer specifications.
- Slighting/Shrinkage: Natural movement, splitting, or swelling due to environmental conditions.
- All Knotty Pine doors and Door Blanks.
- Any door with a non-factory applied high-gloss finish.
- Doors stored on sites other than properly prepared, dry, and ventilated storage areas.
- Any installation deemed structurally unstable by Grain and Bolt.
Handling, Finishing, and Installation Instructions
Failure to follow these instructions explicitly will void your guarantee.
- Storage: Doors must be stored flat on a level surface in a dry, well-ventilated building. Do not store upright or in damp environments.
- Conditioning: Doors must be conditioned to the average prevailing humidity of the installation site before hanging.
- Sanding: Remove handling marks with a final light sanding using fine sandpaper. Do not use steel wool on Oak doors, as this causes a chemical reaction.
- Sealing: Immediately after fitting, and before hanging, the entire door—including the top and bottom edges—must be sealed with a suitable oil-based sealer/primer and two coats of high-grade paint, varnish, or microporous finish.
- Structural Integrity: The structural strength of the door must not be impaired when fitting hardware or altering the door.
Liability
There are no warranties extending beyond those stated above. Grain and Bolt shall not be liable for consequential, incidental, or indirect damages, nor for any amount exceeding the original invoiced price of the door.
