Delivery & Logistics

Getting high-quality, solid-core doors from our workshop to your project requires specialist handling. At Grain and Bolt, we believe in total transparency regarding logistics – no hidden fees, just straightforward information to help your project run smoothly.

How We Calculate Shipping

Because of the weight and size of our products, we use a tiered system based on the volume of your order. Your total delivery cost is calculated automatically at checkout.

  • Internal Doors: £45.00 for the first door, followed by £5 for every additional item.
  • Hardware Only: Baskets containing only ironmongery are shipped at a flat rate of £15.00

Regional Surcharges & Exceptions

While we aim for national coverage, certain postcodes incur surcharges dictated by our courier networks. These apply even if your order meets the free delivery threshold:

  • Scotland & Highlands: Postcodes beginning with AB, DD, PH, PA, KY, IV, and KW will see a surcharge between £26 – £75 applied at checkout.
  • Off-shore Locations: Currently, we do not offer automated shipping to Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, or the Scottish Isles (including the Hebrides, Orkneys, and Shetlands). If you are based in these areas, please email us directly and we will attempt to negotiate a bespoke rate for you.

The Delivery Process

  • Direct Shipping: To keep our carbon footprint small and lead times fast, we often ship products directly from our specialist suppliers. This may mean that if you order both doors and hardware, they may arrive via different couriers on separate days.
  • Booking Your Slot: We will contact you within 2–3 working days of your order to confirm a delivery date. Standard delivery for stock items is 3–7 working days.
  • Vehicle Access: Deliveries are often made via large 18-tonne vehicles. If your property has restricted access – such as narrow lanes, low bridges, or tight turns – you must notify us at the point of order. Failed deliveries due to undisclosed access issues will incur a re-delivery charge.
  • Unloading: Our couriers operate a kerbside delivery service. Due to insurance regulations, drivers cannot carry doors into your property. As our doors are solid-core and heavy, please ensure you have adequate help on-site to move your items indoors safely.

Inspection, Storage & Claims

  • The 48-Hour Window: Please check your delivery thoroughly before signing. If you spot damage, report it to us within 48 hours. This timeframe is critical for us to process claims with the haulage company.
  • Storing Your Doors: Once delivered, doors must be stored flat in a dry, internal room. Do not store doors upright or in environments with wet plaster or high humidity, as timber is a natural product that needs to be conditioned to your home’s environment.
  • Installation & Trade: Inspect every door before you trim, paint, or hang it. Once a door has been modified or installed, it is deemed accepted as fit for purpose. We strongly advise against booking joiners until your doors have arrived and been fully inspected. We cannot be held responsible for trade costs resulting from delivery delays.
